PART 2 - SIDESTEPS
microfilm are you ok

Yeah, I'm... fine. I'm alright.

okay well

the wall isn't perfectly solid. you can push through it

and in that i have to ask

how well do you remember the void

...a little bit, I guess you could say.

Is it like the void?

it's like the void

Can we walk through it like the void?

i don't know

but i think if we want to get anything done we have to try

...can you try first?

...I'm sorry, I just realized how much of an ask that is. We can do it at the same time if you want.

no, i understand. it's okay

its walkable

...okay. Let's go.

  are you holding up ok

...yeah. I'll be alright.

Just bad memories and such. I'll be alive.

  ok, that's good

i guess we never really discussed a plan, did we

...well, okay. Here's my thought.

We were in a bubble, and now we are no longer in a bubble.

So, from there, the most logical step would be to try and find another bubble, right?

It was one bubble for two people, and there's like 16 of us. There has to be at least one other one.

  you mean like that one

Huh.

Yeah, like that one.

Microfilm takes a look around. It's a strange place, in comparison to the one she just came from. Trees everywhere, chunks of land missing, a winding path around that goes directly into the chunks of land that are missing - at the very least she could recognize the things where she came from, but this was a different ballpark entirely.

Megaphone seemed to have a similar demeanor about him. "this place is... something, alright"

Microfilm gave a nod back. "I definitely do think that all of us have these. One per."

"maybe that's what it means by find ragtime. we need to find his bubble"

"Maybe. For now, let's just stay here."

Microfilm approaches Tulip with about as much confidence as you would approach anybody for the first time.

Tulip is motionless. Seems she's lost in thought.

She's just like us, Microfilm. She closed her eyes for a moment as well. She was never all that great with the one-on-one first impressions. Everybody else you've met knows her, it can't be that bad. She took a moment, found her voice, and then started.

Even without really knowing her, Microfilm can tell that Tulip is more disheveled than usual. Despite this, she manages to turn and give a weakened smile towards them.

"Hi," she said. "named Tulip. sorry for"

Some of the tenseness in Microfilm's stance disappeared. She didn't even realize she had some.

"Well... it's nice to finally meet you, Tulip, even if the circumstances are a little strange." Microfilm takes a moment to look towards Megaphone, who is inspecting the area. He's looking at one of the missing chunks of land. She's known him for long enough to clock that he's still a bit tense. Can't blame him.

"I guess I should clarify from earlier," Microfilm continued, "is it that you don't know where you are or that you don't know where the person you need to find is?"

Tulip's smile was more fleeting than expected. "Yes. Place unfamiliar. never.. Both. don't know, where."

In return, a solemn look. "Well, I think we need to find the person we were assigned to get out of wherever we are." Microfilm squints at the note on the desk. "Divination, huh?"

"Glass"

"...oh, I understand. Well, we-"

She's interrupted by a loud rumble permeating the sky. Same one. She turns, as if she can look at the sound.

"Oh, no. I think whatever that was earlier followed us."

Megaphone takes a break from surveying the area. "we should head out soon. we don't know what that thing is yet, but it can't be good"

"Agreed."

Microfilm turns around. Tulip came a bit closer to her while she wasn't looking. She has a smile on her face.

Tulip reaches through the window and moves her paw to touch Microfilm - first the top rim, then the loose bit of film. She picks it up with the care of a silk blanket. Microfilm is okay with her doing it.

It's fleeting again. "Burning,"

"I'm sorry?"

"The flames. They.. I think. Everything went up and. The"

Tulip looks visibly frustrated now. The words she's trying to grab are slicked up.

Microfilm takes a moment to process the information before a lightbulb goes off. "Oh, do you mean the play? I remember hearing about the fire that happened at the end of your show."

She becomes even more ticked. "No, I. That's not what"

"hey, i'm really sorry to interrupt the conversation, but there's a tree on fire"

Microfilm turns around, hoping that her body language isn't screaming suppressed panic and confusion. (Although, should she express some panic? The situation is dire) (Well, but she should look like she has some authority) (Hold on, authority? Who gave her authority?) (Whatever, not important) "What? I... okay. We really should head out now." She turns back towards Tulip. "Tulip, you should get out of here."

"maybe we should all find somewhere else," Megaphone chimes in. "but i don't think that tulip knows how to traverse the void. we can find somebody else to keep her company and then run away, so that the other thing doesn't get her"

Microfilm takes a split second to think. "Megaphone, do you think you could carry her?"

"yeah. she's a flower right"

Microfilm turns back to the flower. "Tulip, do you consent to being carried by Megaphone?"

"Yes. The we're in is. Bad. And I... the. Burning. So,"

Tulip gives up. She got the important word out.

"Do a cradle lift, Megaphone. Let's move."

Okay, where do we go?

  what would be suitable

Somebody who knows her better than us, probably.

    Junebug

  what about constitution

last i heard they were roommates

...like, Roommates roommates or roommates?

  roommates

    Yes

Oh, I don't think I knew that. Well, good for them.

how about we stop by that bubble over there for now to get our bearings

Worth a try.

Constitution is sitting at a computer. Its hands are sitting still. She's not typing anything, just staring, as if something will spontaneously happen if she stares at it. Of course, it does not, and time continues.

She is about to turn to the nearby wall of filing cabinets before she hears a noise.

"Hey! Hey, you," a vaguely familiar voice calls. Its circuits grind before she realizes that it's Microfilm - no wonder she doesn't remember it. It's been a while. "I'm really glad to see you here, of anyone."

[Hello, Ms. Microfilm.] Her hands fall from typing position to resting position. [What brings you here?]

"We have Tulip. Megaphone, let her down over here. I still have her forearm crutches."

"Thankful care Megaphone"

Constitution drops - well, whatever she was doing, she's not really sure - and rushes up to Tulip. She lightly lays her paws on Tulip's stem. [Is there something wrong with Mx. Tulip?]

"She has these burn marks, but it's not from anything that we saw. She already had them when we found her."

"you were in the play with her, right? do you know something about these?"

[Yes, Mr. Megaphone. I]

A pause in writing. Constitution gives a shifty look to the side. Microfilm and Megaphone don't know what to make of it.

[Yes, Mr. Megaphone. I was there when it happened.]

"In any case, do you think you can watch her? There's something happening, and we don't really know what, so Megaphone and I think that she should be left in your custody while we poke around."

Constitution looks at Tulip, then back at Microfilm. [Of course, boss.]

Microfilm is slightly taken aback. "'Boss'? ...oh, no, are we still one of your officers from... Challenge 1? 3 months ago?"

Constitution pauses what it was doing to compute what was said. [...no, Ms. Microfilm, you're not. My apologies for the confusion.]

Constitution moves the chair it was sitting on. [Mx. Tulip, you can have my chair. I am able to stand for a prolonged period of time.]

Microfilm nods. "We would love to stay, but we have to get going now. Thank you."

Microfilm and Megaphone dart in a direction, and eventually leave the area altogether.

Constitution turns towards Tulip. She's sat down at this point. Her forearm braces lean against the back. It looks like she has something to say.

[Mx. Tulip, are you feeling alright?]

"Up"

[I'm sorry?]

"You come up. On the chair and. Here,"

Tulip pats the free space in front of her with her paw. "can sit,"

  so what now

Well, there's one thing for certain that we know we have to do, sooner or later.

We need to find Ragtime.
